Slamming tonight

I have been involved in the poetry slams in Portland for a little over a year now.

From the last few at the North Star, to a few at random venues, to the great beers of Blue, to the great food and atmosphere of Local Sprouts.

And I have slammed .. twice. Once at the North Star, once at Local Sprouts at the Festival of Books.

I enjoy reading, I enjoy writing, but slamming in intimidating.

I am still on book, I am not ready to drop it yet.

But 2012 is a year for me to lower my fears and do what scares me.

So slam on I will, for the 2nd Tuesday slam at Port Veritas at the wonderful Local Sprouts tonight at 7pm.

It will be full, it will be crazy, it will be amazing.

My poems are all good, they are all incomplete, they are all works in progress, but I need to compete, I need to get better, I need to be in the arena.

Which scares me, which thrills me, and I hope encourages me to put the effort in to go off book. Need to get awesome with 3 poems, 3 minutes or so each.

I can do this, it will be fun.

But it’s still scary, looking forward to it.

But, still a little scared.

Time for me to slam.

Slam on!

Lost in the 1st round, but was wonderful to feel nervous performing poetry again.

I wish I had gone to that slam now. I was planning on going but got into the book I was reading and ended up forgetting all about it.
