We have a friend over this week all the way from West Virginia and we were going to take them to my favorite restaurant in Connecticut, the amazing Taiwanese restaurant Iron Chef. Unfortunately, they were closed it looks like permanently this summer.
There was a new sign up and it said they were renovating with a new name so I may have to try the new place.
But, even though my phone ran out of battery, I definitely need a new phone, I plugged it in the car and got my Yelp to work. 400 feet away was another five star Chinese place, Yao’s Diner.
And it was also really good. The spring rolls were okay. The pork fried dumplings good, oddly our favorites for that are still China Villa in Westbrook, Maine. The scallion pancakes were yummy. The dan dan noodles very good and the cold sesame noodles excellent.
The braised pork ribs with bok choi were outstanding. The szechaun hot pot was very good, and insanely big. I will have a lot of leftovers.
The bill was also nice at $65. I will definitely miss Iron Chef but glad this is only twenty minutes away.
I guess now I would change my favorite Connecticut restaurant to Roseland Apizza. And I wish the family who owned Iron Chef and retired all the best.
