The Dream Act really should have passed in 2012. So many Americans who grew up here, went to school here, but were not born here should have citizenship.
Trump’s order ending DACA today affects 800,000 people. They could go to work, and not work under the table. They could go to school and pay in state tuition. And they wouldn’t have to worry about deportation.
There is a long tradition of bigotry, know nothings and nativists in our country. At first it was against Irishman and Germans, then Italians and Poles, then Chinese, now Mexicans and Hispanic people. All of these people are what make America great. Including the hundreds of thousands that are in this in between status with DACA.
And more of them deserve citizenship. That is why we have so many “illegal aliens” in the United States. It’s because it’s so hard to become a citizen. We can and must do better.
