Slammed last night. I’m still on page.
Surprised how low the scores were for “Write Poorly.” I have to remember there is some randomness to slam.
“Embracing the Geek” did really, really well for my 2 minute poem. I didn’t expect such a great reaction. I also got my first 10 ever in slam. That felt really, really good.
And the call center poem I have “People on Saturday” did pretty well.
And in more exciting news I am doing 2 features at Local Sprouts next month. I will have a 5 minute set on First Friday on April 5th and a longer 15 minute set with the poetry brunch on April 13th. I love poetry. It makes me really happy.
John “Survivor” Blake signed in one of my chapbooks that we were made for this, and maybe I am. I am still in my writer’s journey. There is a long way for it to still unfold. I still see myself doing bigger pieces. Maybe not just poetry. There is a lot of cause stuff I am interested in. Things like the absurd amount of prisoners in America. How many casualties the drug war creates. The hot mess of the student loan industry. Having everyone do better in America not the privileged few. I feel privileged to be part of the Portland poetry scene. It is an amazing thing.
