I was watching “The Mind of a Chef” today and Ludo Lefreve was talking about the great food in strip malls in Los Angeles.
But, I think the best stuff is often in strip malls.
When I grew up both of the good pizzerias Rodolfo’s and Alfonso’s and Chinese places Hunan and Mrs. Chow’s, where we once saw Brooke Shields were in strip malls in Montgomery Township, New Jersey. I think that is often true around the country.
Cheap rent and being able to lease cheaply is a good thing.
My favorite Thai restaurant neat Claremont, California was in a strip mall near a Mexican grocery store.
And my favorite restaurant in Connecticut, Iron Chef that serves Taiwanese food is also in a strip mall.
Ludo in Los Angeles has opened several restaurants in strip malls. There is a lot of freedom in low overhead.
