I have been a heavy social media user the last few years, primarily with Facebook and Twitter. Portland has a wonderful Twitter community and have met many good friends through it including 2 I met for lunch today. Social Media is something I enjoy.
But I haven’t really had a 3rd social media stream I really enjoy. I dabble in Google Plus and do put most of my blogposts on it. I do enjoy checking in at Foursquare, and actually saying something not just checking in. I find Pandora fun, played with blip.fm for a while (then had issues posting to Facebook). I also tried Tumblr, but got kicked out with issues due to how Klout worked with Tumblr. I never really did Myspace, do play around with Untappd….
But, there is a third social media site I do love, Goodreads. This is a site all about books. If you follow my Friday blogpost (ie the #FridayReads) that is often about the books I read each week, you know I include a goodreads review. On Goodreads, 1 star is hated (I didn’t like it), 2 it was ok, 3 I liked it; 4 I really liked it; 5 I loved it (It was amazing). Goodreads uses I didn’t like it for 1, I have that more for hated it, and have 2 stars for meh, or didn’t really like it. And would rather say I loved it then it was amazing.
But, I enjoy posting reviews of books I love, commenting on other people reviews. Finding out similar books I may enjoy, and most especially what books people are passionate about. It leads to interesting discussion, and of course sometimes disagreements, but in a civil way.
I also think it’s a forum that appeals to the reader and the introvert in many of us.
So if you are a reader, I invite you to check it out. Here is my profile. Read on!
