I just read Kurt Vonnegut’s wonderful “A Man Without a Country” again for probably the 10th or 15th time.
And although he is writing about the George W. Bush years in 2005, it seems maybe even more relevant today.
It’s clear that Donald Trump has a “psychopathic personality, or PP, the medical term for smart, personable people who have no consciences.” As he just does and says things seemingly not caring about the consequences.
Wanting to rile up his support with racists and white supremacists. And spend $25 billion on an unneeded wall, that if built will show his folly.
People like Trump want to put us on a snake-oil standard. And the third of America that supports him just thinks he’s great. As they just watch Fox News and even Info Wars. Treating anything that disagrees with their viewpoint as fake news.
Saying supporting a law is biblical, forgetting of course that there is a separation of church and state in America.
Things getting super weird.
I’m glad there is a book that supports my cynical world view so much like “A Man Without a Country.” And I’m glad cultural critics like Kurt Vonnegut, John Oliver, or even Anthony Bourdain exist. We need truth tellers in our insane world.
