I’ve been watching “The Young Pope” (up to episode 4). Reading the surreal book “ninety-nine stories of GOD” by Joy Williams. I was brought up Unitarian-Universalist. And am I now pagan.
I must admit I don’t like the God of the Old Testament. I am the God, your God and thou shalt have no other gods before me. I don’t like the vengeful God. The idea of crusades and crusaders and missionaries who did so much harm around the world and especially the Americas trying to convert the “savages.” The death toll shows who the savages were.
So much harm, death, and strife over religion.
So much good in prayer, love and making the world better.
What if God was one of us. What is she wanted just to play Skee-Ball like in the movie “Dogma.”
What if God is spirit. And gods. And community. And loving and respecting nature.
What if it’s sacred space. Finding the holy in big and small things.
In laughter, tears, love, water, wind and the green ones.
We need to find love and healing in this world.
We need to love thy neighbor, not banish them.
We need to hug, listen, cry, pray and make the world a better place in big and small ways.
We need to better. So much better.
And I believe the world is becoming a better place. A more equal place. With less poverty, more love and more chances. More education. More health, more vaccines, less childhood death.
I believe in a better world. And the gods are with us.
