Putting the Phone Away

I’m really looking forward to getting off the grid at Rites of Spring in the Berkshires on Wednesday. It’s great to live in an information age where we can Google nearly anything on our phones but it’s super addictive.

One thing I’ve enjoyed this year is playing Final Fantasy XV on my phone. It’s a lot of fun but a time suck. And it’s set up to award you for checking in frequently. These devices we have like being checked. We get dopamine when we find people like our stuff on Facebook, or we win prizes on games like Final Fantasy XV.

And we can drive ourselves nuts with all the continual crises on the news. Especially in Trump World.

I find if I want to read, watch a movie or even watch the Golden State Warriors, the phone is best in another room. It is just so distracting.

It’s good for the system to be in a place every year where I literally can’t check in. It’s healing. It’s also great to be where I don’t hear the noise if of cars all the time. And I can hear the water, the wind, the frogs, the birds and kids at play. And be in my pagan community again for Rites of Spring.

It’s a loud world. And sometimes it’s best in life to turn it off.

Really good movie and series of epic epicness.

And all of the endings.

Although I still need to read the book.

Fun to watch on demand with Lanna tonight.

I stayed up a bit too late enjoying the much shorter NASCAR All-Star Race tonight. Good fun and not many cautions until the last fifteen laps where it got very interesting. It’s a nice change of pace before the Coca-Cola 600 next week also in Charlotte. And congratulations Kevin Harvick on winning a million dollars. Although I would have loved to see Daniel Suarez win.

Really well written and acted. Bill Hader is an excellent actor and Stephen Root and Henry Winkler are having a lot of fun.

Although, I’m not sure actor is the best career move after hitman. Slightly different public profiles.

A very hard documentary to watch. I didn’t think of how closed the Hasidic community in places like Brooklyn, NYC are. The shunning of people trying to leave the community reminds me a lot of Scientology actually.

Abuse should not be tolerated, and sometimes police really do need to be involved. I hope things get better and abusers are prosecuted in the Hasidic community. It sounds like they don’t want police involved in their affairs but, you shouldn’t allow abusive people to keep jobs with children or get custody. It’s vile. Good but very hard to watch and on Netflix.
