I’m really looking forward to getting off the grid at Rites of Spring in the Berkshires on Wednesday. It’s great to live in an information age where we can Google nearly anything on our phones but it’s super addictive.
One thing I’ve enjoyed this year is playing Final Fantasy XV on my phone. It’s a lot of fun but a time suck. And it’s set up to award you for checking in frequently. These devices we have like being checked. We get dopamine when we find people like our stuff on Facebook, or we win prizes on games like Final Fantasy XV.
And we can drive ourselves nuts with all the continual crises on the news. Especially in Trump World.
I find if I want to read, watch a movie or even watch the Golden State Warriors, the phone is best in another room. It is just so distracting.
It’s good for the system to be in a place every year where I literally can’t check in. It’s healing. It’s also great to be where I don’t hear the noise if of cars all the time. And I can hear the water, the wind, the frogs, the birds and kids at play. And be in my pagan community again for Rites of Spring.
It’s a loud world. And sometimes it’s best in life to turn it off.
