Cart vs. Walking

I had a good day today.

Slept in.

Had a delicious lunch at the Dancing Elephant.

And got to play golf.

With some positive feedback on social media I got a free round at the very fun and challenging Sunset Ridge Golf Club on Cumberland St. in Westbrook (going towards Windham). It used to be called Westerly Winds and looks like it will be an 18 hole course soon. It is also the insanely cheap price of $5 to walk this year in the few weeks left in Maine’s golf season.

I asked if could ride a cart and they said yes and even got a free drink. Very cool. And got 20 found balls for $10 because I know I would lose a few in the marshes.

And I enjoyed the cart. It is less work. But there is something kind of awesome about walking. It’s quieter. You don’t have to worry about making tracks. And it’s more spiritual in a way to just walk the course. Although it does wear you out more, especially when your back hurt in the morning.

I think I will walk courses more than the cart in the future. There was times I wanted to just put the clubs on my back.

What do you prefer cart or walking or the rolling cart? I see a lot of people choosing all 3.

All I know is it was a beautiful day to go golfing. And I know winter isn’t far away.

It was also great to see Dave Jacquet perform and see some friends at the Frog and Turtle tonight.

Definitely a great day.

Beauty, Peace and Content

The three goals of the Blue Cat of Castle Town.

Beauty is the easiest you just have to look and see and be prepared to see what’s around you and seek beauty.

Of course the more content you are the easier it is to see beauty. Contentment is a hard thing to reach with a world that moves so fast. Advertising tells us to buy, buy, buy. That new and shiny will make us happier. When it is much more being content with what you have.

Peace is something I have been working on with contentment. I have a very active brain that often dwells on things. I grew up in New Jersey which is one of the least contended places in America. Everyone is striving, everyone is trying to do better, get richer, go faster. Well maybe not everyone but there is a lot of Arunah Hydes out there. Seeing the world as a chance for money, power and fame.

Peace is also to me harder with just the car, and the basic noises of modern life. We live with a lot of background noise. Tvs that are on, radios in the car, and all of the noises cars produce and roads. It’s amazing how much easier it is to feel peaceful in the woods away from all those cars, pavement and noise.

Beauty, Peace and Contentment great goals to have.

“The Blue Cat of Castle Town” really needs to go back in print. It is available though for free online and for a dollar on Kindle. Enjoy!

The Symphony of the Woods

It feels nice to be writing some poems again. Intention matters.

—————–

The symphony of the woods
of birds, of insects
of stuff falling around me.

The ephemeral summer,
becoming a person of cold weather,
used to 6-7 seven months of coats.
Confused by the month or two of shorts season.

The fall approaches
Leaves are slowly changing color.
The woods let you know of seasonal change.
Different birds, different insects, different sounds, different leaves.

The brown branches of winter
The budding spring
The greens of summer
The kaleidoscope of autumn.

It’s part of my cycle
I’m a creature of the woods.

The seventy degree January days of Claremont, California
were nice
were lovely
were decadent
But, I missed the cold, and
the reflective ability to see the winter there.
And knowing that the buds of spring will return soon.
