It’s honestly something I’m not great at.
I mostly just type these out and hit publish.
But, I respect it. I’ve been reading some of Francesca Lia Block’s books after loving the “Dangerous Angels: The Weetzie Bat Books.” Each book in the series had a distinct narrator and point of view. It kept the books clear and flowing.
I just finished her “Echo” today that was just a mess. There isn’t a clear narrative, and each chapter was like a story but not quite. There was some great language in and interesting characters but I kept getting lost. It could have made sense as a series of short stories. Or honestly some of it could have been deleted completely to make a novella.
I shouldn’t feel lost where I am in each chapter and how it relates to the whole. Seemed like a lot of fragments. Pity too because I think it could have been delightful with good editing. There was some good stuff about a broken girl losing her father.
