Doing a Haiku Deathmatch tonight at Dobra Tea at 7pm (Dobra Tea is just above Bull Moose and Videoport on Middle Street in Portland).

Did write a few haikus on Tuesday. But had a good run laying down in bed last night and this morning.

I like this round and may use a bunch of them in round 1 tonight (1st round 3 rounds of best of 3; 2 round 3 rounds of best of 5; 3rd round 1 round best of 7; 8 poets in slam).

I like this bunch. I wrote most of them on Twitter tonight and in the last 24 hours. There is even a form called the Tweetpoem that just needs to be 140 characters or less, haiku almost always qualifies.

Tolerance forces
Phone banks, door knocking
Celebrate victory

Forces of tolerance
Fundraising, phones, door knocking
Celebrate victory

Blinded by science
The curious one keeps asking
Discovery is fun

Beware of poison ivy
Leaves of three let them be
and watch out for Joker

Heaven’s door knocks
Not ready, I’m just not ready
The reaper will wait

The songs of rainbows
Infrequent, beautiful, double
Reading connections

The songs of rainbows
Beautiful, double, infrequent
Connections, reading.

The active mind
Wanders from topic to topic
You don’t stop with play

Attention deficits
Watching television, phone, computer
Attention to nothing

Attention deficits
Watching television, phone, computer
No comprehension

Hungry Hungry Hippos
Love the taste of plastic
Shoot it out butts

Jay and Silent Bob
Blond one, talks much, says little
Quiet brings wisdom

Curiosity Roves
Over red sand, rock, cold
Scientists cheer, cry

Insomnia time
Hours confusing light and dark
Naps be the rub

Insomnia time
Hours confusing light and dark
Napa be the rub

Sometimes are whining
Sometimes are joy, laughter
Wine rids of whine

Beer marvelous beer
The cause of and solution
Of all life problems

Knowing glances
Sly looks, wanting to ask, afraid
Take the glorious risk

Stacked, seasoned
The wood waits, prepares
Toasting winter

The sly youthful smile
May hide with age and wrinkles
Always eyes twinkle

November’s cold
Approaches the house without power
On comes the light, heat.

Haiku deathmatch
Rounds of poets, jokes told
Fun had, laughter

Rhythmic Cypher Dobra
White, Black, Gourd, Hummus, Desserts, tea
Gratitude, Wordplay

Rhythmic Cypher Dobra
White, Black, Gourd, Hummus, Desserts
Gratitude, Wordplay, Tea.

Sometimes are whining
Sometimes are joy, laughter
Wine rids of whine

Lights come on
After two weeks dark and scared
Families rejoice

The bare tree blows
up and down with the wind
Waiting for winters coat

Tree bare for winter
Reminds us that
The green will return

Darkness comes early
the birds fly from cold
Mainers hibernate

Mainers hibernate
Have stores of wood stacked
Toasting winter’s fire.

We are made of stars
Atoms from distant stars
Exploding, collapsing

Let’s bring the A game
Why bring the A game
The A game sucks.

28 poems today/tonight. Awesome and I actually like most of them. I think the one’s I did tonight in general were the best. My favorites Darkness comes early; lights come on; sly, youthful, smile; Curiousity roves; stacked, seasoned. Haiku is a fun form. Looking forward to tonight.
