Haiku to Slam

Going to do a haiku slam on Sunday, so need to write some haikus.

Have to get in haiku spirit.

I noticed the jokey stuff wins, so doing that over traditional haiku.

Let’s see how it goes.

A day to vote
a day for democracy
no more commercials

Listening to jazz
Hanging out with dad
Music binds us

I need to write
Haiku, to stir the spirit
and laughter.

Playing bingo
at assisted living
Getting trounced.

The winter tree
Blows with the wind
Misses its limbs

Hours of tension
Waiting for months of work
Hoping to cheer, cry

And not a haiku, just a short poem.

A long drive
To Pennsylvania
Dad diminished
Not the same
More demanding
Different
Loves his jazz
Very particular
I know he wants to be home
Needs to get his left side working.
